January 23, 2010 - Form Practice
This Saturday was almost a repeat of last Saturday. Up at 6AM, at the airport by 7AM. Cold: 30 degree temps. Pre-heat the engine. Short flight to Carroll County airport (DMW). Meet Mike R and practice formation flying. Other than the cold, it was a beautiful day. Not a cloud in the sky, great visibility, and smooth air. Here is a nice shot of Baltimore lit up by the bright morning sun, as I head northwest.
Here's a nice shot of Mike's new ride: his
RV-4. He sold his RV-7A in the fall, and bought this used 4,
crossing over to the Dark Side (taildragger) in the process.

Nearby was this Maule on amphibian floats. It might
not be as fast as an RV but on the other hand, an RV can't land on
water! | ||||||
Ready to taxii out for some form work. The smooth air was perfect for form practice. In fact, it was just a beautiful day to fly. I started out a little slow but by the end I had improved dramatically on basic turns, crossovers and rejoins.
For obvious reasons, I wasn't taking a lot of pics. Once I just kind of pointed the camera in the general direction without looking, but as you can see it didn't come out too well. But, it gives you a taste.
