June 2, 2008 - Epoxy Air Duct

OK, time to epoxy the air ducts to the top cowl.  I scuffed up the areas that were getting epoxied together, then wiped them down with acetone.  I mixed up some West Systems epoxy, and stuck them together.  I clecoed the air ducts and top cowl together then mounted the top cowl on the airplane.  The instructions say to do this and let the epoxy cure while the top cowl is in its normal position.

The next day the air ducts were solidly fixed to the top cowl.  I mixed up some more West Systems epoxy, then mixed microballoons in until the mixture was thick as peanut butter.  Then I slathered it on to smooth the taps between air ducts and cowl.

I also epoxied on two sheets of glass to the inner sides of the air ducts.  Vans Air Force posters say this will help engine cooling.  Makes sense  to me.  Can't hurt, anyways.
