March 7, 2006 - Baggage Area |

Before I could proceed in the baggage area, I needed to make a decision on
where to mount the ELT and Strobe power supply. Apparently, many
RV-builders have put them behind the F-706 bulkhead in the fuselage, out
of sight behind the baggage aft cover. However, RV forum posters
seem to like putting them underneath the baggage area floors.
Neither really appealed to me. The former had too much weight aft,
and the latter was too much work. But one poster put his in the
space right behind one of the seat backs. Out of sight, easy install
and weight forward. That's for me.
I ordered an ELT from Stein Air. The gold thing on the left is the mounting bracket for it. It's identical to the one we have in the Citabria. Installation for it was easy -- I just screwed it down to the baggage area wood floor. I had ordered the Whelon System Six from Van's some time ago. That's the strobe power supply on the right. |

I clecoed and drilled the baggage area floors and side panels.
Some builders make the baggage floor removable by installing lots of
nutplates. I'm just going to pop-rivet them down per the plans.
I am going to cut a rectangular hole in the right floor for a
little storage area that will hold a few tools and a quart or oil.
Then I won't have to worry about articles adrift in case I feel like
doing a loop or something.
