March 4, 2006 - Finish Kit

The forecast was for windy conditions -- as they have been for weeks.  Bruce and I headed out to the airport anyways.  The winds were steady right down the runway so we decided to fly.  We headed over to Easton for breakfast.  The Citabria flew great and we had a good time.  The landings weren't trivial but we didn't have any problem.  I havn't flown in three months; it was good to get back in the air.
That big 8 foot by 4 foot box that the deer are interested in is the Finish Kit.  Bruce and I picked it up at ABF Freight Thursday evening.  As with the Wing and Fuselage kits, I've done a "dock pickup"; it's a little cheaper than having it delivered to the house.
Lynnette says "OK, the Finish Kit is here; how long until you fly me to Key West and Martha's Vineyard"?  What are you standing around for?  Get to work!"
As usual, Van's crate is built like Fort Knox.  The chisel worked pretty well in getting the top off.
With the top off, there it was:  the Treasures of the Finish Kit.  I feel like Howard Carter first peering into the entrance of King Tutankhamen's tomb.
Your mission, Bill, if you choose to accept it, is to finish the RV-7 and get it into the air!
The cowls were on top plus some other items.  Underneath was "the canopy".  I was surprised how big it is.
The upper and lower cowls.
The wheel pants.
The spinner, landing gear fairings, brake lines, and wheel and brake kit (in cardboard box).
The canopy brace.
