December 27, 2005 - Brake Pedals

The instructions now called for something a little different:  the brake and rudder pedals.  Cool.  But ... I don't know if whoever wrote the instructions just decided he was sick of it or whatever, but at this point, the instructions basically just say:  "build [whatever] according to the drawings".

I'm certainly capable of looking at the drawings, and devising a step-by-step process of making it happen, but that takes time.  I want to get this RV-7 done and fly it!  So I went to Dan Checkoway's website and literally documented the steps he followed building the brake and rudder pedals on some legal paper.  Came to about 14 steps.  And that's how I built mine!

First I clecoed and drilled the brake pedal components.  You can see how rough some of the edges are.  I spent a lot of time filing them smooth.

The left brake pedal clecoed together.
Drilling the right brake pedal.
The brake pedals drilled, countersunk, edge-smoothed, cleaned and ready for priming.  (Disregard the gussets) So easy to say, yet it took me over three hours to prep these parts.
