March 19, 2006 - Aft Seat Floor |
||||||
I was in California on business for the most of the week; it really hurt my RV-building production. It took me 3-4 days after I got back to really get back into it. Although I'm not done with the baggage area -- I need to make a hinged door in one of the baggage floors -- I decided to press on to the seat area. I started by cutting the six hinges that rivet to the aft seat floors (3 each).
Then I marked on the aft seat floor where the hinges go, according to
the drawings. It's easy to make a mistake here.
Notice that I removed the center two eyelets on each hinge, per the
drawings.

Then I started drilling. I drilled the hinges to #40 first. Then match-drilled both the hinge and floor to #30. Why do I drill to #40 first? The #40 bit doesn't "walk" as bad as the #30.
The rear-most hinge has extra holes for the seat ribs. I match-drilled these, using the aft seat floor as a template.
