September, 2006 - Cabin Frame/Upper Forward Fuselage

The weather was pretty nice today, but I didn't have the energy to drive out to the airport and go flying.  Plus, I really felt like working on the RV.

All I had left to do on the cabin frame was drill the outer bracket holes and countersink.  I drilled the forward two holes to #27 for a #8 screw and the aft two holes to #19 for a #10 screw.  I countersunk the four holes with the appropriate countersink bit.  The forward holes get a larger countersink because they receive the dimpled skin.  The aft holes have a smaller countersink because the #10 screw doesn't go through the outer skin.   Then I tapped the forward holes to 8-32.  I don't have a tap for a #10 screw so that is on hold.

So, I'm pretty much done with the cabin frame.  As with every phase of the project, it took much longer than expected.

I decided to work on the upper forward fuselage area next.  The first step is to fabricate and trim a bunch of components.  Here they all are, although I still have some more to do.
