November 5, 2005 - Fall Flight

The first weekend in November was great, weather wise.  T-shirt temperatures and light wind.  Visibility could have been better though.  The foliage this year has been disappointing.  At best, it has been kind of dull and burnt looking.

Bruce picked me up Saturday morning and we headed out to Essex Skypark.  We jumped into the Citabria and headed out to Jan's for some soaring.  Here's a shot of Essex Skypark in all its glory.

Bruce was in the front seat, so I took the opportunity to get some good shots of Jan's Flying Cow Airpark.  Jan's motorglider and Bill Burner's Birdfalke are on the runway, ready to go.
Another view of the Flying Cow.
The Citabria in fall splendor.
I flew the Ka-8 glider but unfortunately there wasn't much lift today.  I had to work very hard just to stay aloft for 50 minutes.  Still, that's enough time to get my moneys worth.  I also flew the Corben Baby Ace for about 20 minutes.  I flew just below the forested ridge in the late afternoon.  It was magical.  Flying the open-cockpit Baby Ace at 500 feet is to experience the barnstormer days of the 20s and 30s.

Flying back to Essex, we saw this hot air balloon coasting over the trees and landing in this big open field.  That's got to be a blast.  Unfortunately the picture didn't come out very well.
