May 28, 2006 - Great Soaring Day

The family all jumped into the van and we headed out to the Flycow Airpark for a fun day of soaring and picnicing.  It was a banner day at the Flycow.  At one point we had five gliders in the air -- me in the Ka-8, Bruce in the AS-27, Bill in the Birdfalke, a new guy in a Ka-7, and Jack in the big yellow WWII Pratt-Read trainer.  Not to mention Jan in the motorglider that towed us all up.  Jan flew his Tiger Moth also.

I had a great flight in the Ka-8 -- almost two and a half hours.  I could have stayed up longer, finding lift was no problem.  I got up to 4700 feet.  I had fun dog-fighting with Bruce, doing big full stalls and wingovers, and thermalling with some buzzards.

Afterward, Lucy and I washed the Ka-8.

Everyone chowing down.  Does it get any better than this?
Bill always stays up as long as possible.  Here, he's rolling by in his newly-restored Birdfalke.
