August 25,2009 - Campbell Field Fly-In
Today the plan was to fly down to Campbell Field Airport (9VG), way down near the southern tip of the Eastern Shore, for their Sunday "Roll on the Grass". I passed St. Michaels on the way there.
And here's a good shot of Horn Point airfield. It's
a private field but they open it up for an annual fly-in in the
spring. | ||||||
After a quick 45 minute flight -- a flight that would take 1.5 hours in the Citabria -- here I am at Campbell Field. I havn't been here in a couple of years. The Pilot's Pub building is new to me.
Inside this building there were hot dogs, chili, donuts
and drinks to be had. | ||||||
Campbell Field is just a nice place to hang out and talk airplanes.
The weather was nice and there was a pretty good turnout: 35 or so airplanes.
Including this Coast Guard
helicopter based out of
I had told my hangar neighbor Tom that I was going to
Campbell Field. It sounded so good he decided to go too. This
is his Maule. | ||||||
Bill R. is based out of York; this is his newly painted RV-7.
I followed this big twin Baron in for
landing. | ||||||
Richard S. flew his RV-8 in from Easton.
A well-traveled CGS Hawk.
Eveyrone liked the big Cessna 195.
And of course I always like the Citabrias.
A very nice Huskey. | ||||||
This Great Lakes Biplane is based at Ennis field near Salisbury and is a frequent visistor to Campbell Field.
This Cub is also based at Ennis Field.
Nice looking Cessna 140.
One reason I always like to go to Campbell Field is that I
get to fly the nearby Barrier Islands. After leaving Campbell
Field, I headed east for the barrier islands.
It's fun to fly down the wide, deserted beaches.
I guess there used to be a house between those two
chimneys. | ||||||
I wonder what happened to these trees?
| ||||||
A houseboat tied up in an inland side river.
Another house that didn't work out.
