September 25, 2004 - Flight from Grove City, PA

The local airport is only three miles away from the College. We stayed at the Old Arbor Rose Bed and Breakfast. Dave, the owner, came out and picked us up at the airport. A great place to stay if you're ever in Grove City.

We went through the presentation and tour of the school, had lunch in the cafeteria, and then went to the airport. Before turning east for home, we flew over the College to get an aerial picture. It's a nice lookign campus, both on the ground and from the air.

Heading east over the Appalachians. Visibility wasn't that great but it got better as we flew east.
Started seeing a little foliage in the higher elevations.
We flew over this massive building and hundreds of semi-trailors on the west side of Interstate 81.
You see hugh quarries like this all over the East Coast.
This is an airfield owned by the Mid-Atlantic Soaring Association. I flew my Ka-4 glider here once.

Clearview Airport (2W2) near Westminister, Maryland. It has two distinguishing features. The first is a surprisingly well-stocked aviation supply store. You can buy charts, cases of oil, tires, hardware, logbooks, etc. I was amazed at their inventory of aircraft building tools: squeezer, rivet gun and sets, cleco pliers, hand seamers, etc.

The other feature is that it's a real challange to land here. Runway 32 slopes downhill and it's not a long runway. You really have to maintain the proper speed on final or you'll be going around.
