May 12, 2004 - Riveting the Right Elevator

First step is to rivet the spar reinforcers and ribs to the spar. I tried at first using the hand squeezer but the yoke just wasn't big enough, so I shifted to the rivet gun. I did it solo, holding the bucking bar in the left hand and gun in the right. The spar was in the vise. The rivets came out very well; only had to drill one out. My Dad helped me; he got to see quite a bit of what goes on: deburring, dimpling, countersinking, match drilling, riveting and drilling out rivets.

OK, the right elevator structure is complete. Bring on the skin.
Clecoing on the right elevator skin.
By the time this RV is built, I'll probably have performed this act of putting the cleco in the hold 20,000 times!
