June 17, 2010 - EAA Chapter Meeting

Turbo Cub Project

This month's EAA Chapter meeting was at a member Paul's house to see his TurboCub project.

Actually, the meeting was in his garage/workshop, and what a shop!  Large, clean, well lit -- a builder's dream shop.

Paul's floorboards were a thing of beauty.  He applied something like five coats of Min-wax.  They could serve as Panel!

Notice how long the aft floorboard is.  It's intentionally long so the pilot can land, remove the rear seat, and have room to stretch out and sleep in the plane.   A door goes on that trapezoidal side shape making it easy to load cargo.

Everything about the TurboCub kit was first-class.

Paul hasn't done much to the wings.  This is how they come.

Most everything is epoxy primed.

Paul built a nice work table.  More importantly, he provided a nice spread of food for the chapter members!

The Turbo Cub's main spar is quite a bit different from my old Citabria's wood spar.

I thought the hinge points for the ailerons and flaps were interesting.

Paul is putting an O-360 on this plane.  It'll be an awesome bush plane.
