June 23, 2007 - Essex Skypark, Family Day |
Bruce and I headed home in the morning. The weather was still fantastic. We cruised down the Susquehanna River at 1,000 feet enjoying the scenery.
We turned east to avoid Harrisburg and flew right over Hershey Park. This was the home of the Hershey chocolate factory and now they have a big amusement park which you can see below. There also was an airfield here. You can still see the runway to the right.
We stopped at a little public grass strip on the north side of the
Susquehanna called McGinniss to swap seats. Nice field surrounded
by trees. Absolutely no facilities of any kind. Taking off
to the south, you're immediately over the river.
The River is getting wider and deeper as we get closer to the Bay.
We arrived back at Essex Skypark right before the Wings and Wheels Family Day started.
Bruce and I gave some rides to family and friends. Here is Bruce, clawing for altitude. Seems strange to see the Citabria flying without me in it.
This is Max's Champ which he has owned forever. Max taught me how
to fly tailwheel in this plane.
John's L-5. | ||||||
One of the banner tow-planes that operates at Essex. They do quite
a bit of banner towing here.
I wheeled the Kitfox out into the sunlight for the first time in it's history.
The "Wheels" part of the show.
More Wheels. | ||||||
Family and friends hanging around the Citabria.
Bruce is about to take his wife Ellen and their grandson Gavin for a ride in the Citabria. This is the first time Ellen has ever flown in the Citabria!
Leslie -- also her first ride in a light aircraft.
