Horn Point Antique Fly-in, May 20, 2006 |
||||||
Bruce and I are off in the Citabria to the Horn Point Antique Fly-in Cambridge, Maryland. It was overcast when we left our houses, but by the time we fired up the Citabria, the sun was out and the weather was looking good!
Over Essex Skypark. It looks like we may get the runway paved in
July, which would also mean that the airport is assured of staying open
for at least ten years. Now, if we could only get the ADIZ
rescinded....
|
||||||
We headed over to Easton to meet the other Citabria/Super Decathelon drivers for some breakfast. Unfortunately, there were at least 30 people waiting outside the small, but good, Easton airport restaurant. We decided to fly to Cambridge airport which also has an airport restaurant.
Mark led the way. We were #2. That is the Choptank River up
ahead and Cambridge is on the other side of the river.
|
||||||
Dick was #3. | ||||||
I tried out the zoom on my little digital camera to get a better shot of Dick's Super Decathelon.
Tom met us at Cambridge where we had a nice breakfast.
Taxiing out for the short hop over to Horn Point.
|
||||||
Tom joining up on us in Delta Delta.
Tom with the Choptank River in the background.
|
||||||
Tom breaking the sound barrier. Didn't know a Citabria could do that, did you? Actually, I think there is a smudge on my camera lens.
On final for Horn Point. The runway is behind that tube -- who took this horrible picture?
There were some nice antique
airplanes at the fly-in but the overall turn-out wasn't nearly what it
was two years ago. The weather forecasters were calling for 15 knot
winds gusting to 20 in the afternoon; maybe that kept people from
flying.
Here is Bruce next to one of the better looking Tri-Pacers you'll ever see. |
||||||
A Great Lakes in great condition.
A Gypsy-Moth in immaculate condition.
Around 2PM, planes started bugging
out. This is yours truly, with the four Citabria/Super Ds in the
background.
We did a Choptank River run on the way home, since all four airplanes were heading north. Too much fun. Chalk up another great flying day! |
