April 14, 2007 - Fun over the Eastern Shore

If I wanted to go flying, Saturday morning would have to be it, because a rain storm was coming.  I took off around 11:30 and headed east for a little fun fly over the Eastern Shore.  I flew up the Chester River and took some shots of the big waterfront mansions.
I was surprised to see a bunch of deer standing out in the open.  I circled around and came back in for a photoshot.  By this time, they had moved under the trees, right at the shoreline.  I'm told by a deer hunter aficionado at work that the deer like to herd at this time of year.  Usually I see them near dusk, not in the middle of the day.
Notice the grass runway running from left to right above the house.  Waterfront and private runway ... not bad!
In fact, there are two perpendicular grass runways here.  Must be a private airport community.  There were a couple of planes parked at that intersection.
I just thought this peninsula would make a nice shot, with the gold field, green grass and water.
I've always liked this estate which is surrounded by open fields.
Nice.
Waterfront homes on the east side of the Chester River, across the river from Chestertown.
Chestertown.
I stopped at Massey and chatted with some Decathelon drivers plus Jim who is a Massey regular.  Then I headed east to the Delaware river/bay.
These marshes are always scenic.
Looking north.    That's a nuke plane across the river.
It's fun to fly low over the marshes.
A tanker headed north towards Philly.
There is this one large field near Ridgely Airport that has a remote cul-de-sac where a herd of deer can always be found.  They don't like the Citabria much, though.
A good shot of the Chester River as I head west towards the Chesapeake Bay and Essex Skypark.  I usually call up Potomac ATC around now to get cleared into the ADIZ.
