April 23, 2006 - Flying the Eastern Shore

It rained all Saturday and the forecast for Sunday was not much better.  I worked on the Kitfox all Saturday.  It was still overcast Sunday morning.  I worked on the Kitfox some, but I was really in a funk because of being cooped up all weekend.  But the skies started clearing around noon and by 2PM I was on my way out to Essex Skypark.

By the time I took off, there wasn't a cloud in the sky!  Visibility wasn't very good though, less than ten miles.  You could hardly see across the bay.  On the positive side, though, the air was very smooth.  I just headed across the bay to the eastern shore for some fun low and slow.

The picture below doesn't do this house and estate justice.  What a nice spread!

Another nice waterfront mansion.
This particular big mansion is surrounded by open fields.  Chestertown is visible in the background, across the Chester River.
Rolling in on the Chester River.
I noticed all these duck blinds on the river.  Some of them were elaborately camouflaged  -- not this one, though.
There's a nicely camouflaged duck blind just right of center.
Heading west across the bay, the air was so smooth that I didn't even need to hold the stick.  You can just see the outline of the western shore ahead.  My hour and twenty minute flight was just what I needed.  The funk was gone and I felt great for the rest of the Sunday.
