February 13, 2007 - Canopy Frame (again) |
||||||
You may recall, I botched up the forward canopy channel frames and had to
order a new set from Vans. They arrived so I edge-smoothed them,
then match-drilled one of them, using the splice plate as a template.
I taped the wood blocks on the inside of the channel, so that when I clamped them to the roll-bar, I'd have the required separation. |

With the channel frames clamped to the roll bar, I put the forward
canopy on for fitting.

The channel frames arrived straight from Van's. But with the
canopy on, I realized I needed to bend the top of the channel flanges
down a little. When I did that, the channel frames bowed and
twisted. It was kind of discouraging. I thought about it for
a day and asked for suggestions on the Vans Air Force forum -- no
response. In the end, I got them straight by clamping them in the
vise and twisting them. For me, the canopy channel frames have
been the most troublesome aspect of the entire project...\Wing\Wing-12Feb07.html
