June 21, 2007 - Batt Contactor, Mapbox, Panel |
||||||
I bought my Battery and Starter contactors from B&C Specialty Products a while back. I did it because I didn't want to buy the Van's Firewall Forward Kit at that time and I was ordering a bunch of other stuff from B&C. Now I realize that the Starter contactor is different from Van's and the mounting dimensions on the drawings don't work. It wasn't a big deal; I just had to make a separate little backing plate, shown below.
The Battery contactor is a little taller than Van's so I will have to
move the battery box up a little.

The first thing I wanted to do on the panel was the Mapbox because I figured it would be the most forgiving, plus it had instructions and drawings. I primed the inside of the box with the Marhyde rattle-can, then the Rustoleum hammered. Cleco it together, match-drill it, deburr ... you know the drill.
Ready for riveting.

I was able to rivet the first three rivets with the MainSqueeze. I'll have to buck the rest.
I cut out rectangles corresponding to the Dynon, Airgizmo mount, SL-60 and 327 transponder. Previously I had thought I'd have the 486-AirGizmo underneath the Dynon. But after laying it out on the panel, I realized there just wasn't enough real-estate. I tried the Dynon by itself, with the 486/AirGizmo, SL-60 and 327 in a stack. I think it looks pretty good so that's probably what I'll go with.
