June 13, 2025 - Driving to Alaska
Icefields Parkway -- Part Three

Traveling north on the Icefields Parkway (Highway 93) alongside Beauty Creek.

Deer!

We pass through a colorful area.  Unfortunately the color is either from the trees having burned or have been killed by a blight of some kind.

We stopped at Goats and Glaciers lookout.

We didn't see any goats or glaciers but it still a pretty view.

Next we stopped at Athabasca Falls.  This, of course, is the Athabasca River.

A fire must have come through here because many of the trees were burnt.

Approaching the falls.

A good shot of the falls.

The cold wager rages through this narrow chasm.

Yes, a fire definately came through here.

No boaters coming through here!

The Icefields Parkway ended when we reached the town of Jasper.  You may recall, last summer Jasper was hit by a wildfire which ended up destroying 358 buildings, one-third of the town's structures, and causing an estimated $1.23 billion in damages.

At Jasper, we turned right onto Highway 16 (Yellowhead Highway).  We really didn't see much damage in the part of Jasper we drove through.

Soon we were back into the wilderness where we passed these critters, so mangy we couldn't even tell what they were.

On the right we passed this incredibly water which is still the Athabasca River.

About 30 miles north of Jasper was the Jasper Gates Resort & RV where we spent the night.

Lynnette made a new friend!
