Train to Amsterdam - Day4 |
||||||
I had made train (and seat) reservations from Berlin to Amsterdam online a month or so ago. So we checked out of the hotel, caught the S-Bahn to the Berlin Hauptbahnhof, and waited for our train to show up.
Berlin Central Station is very modern, safe and clean. Sure enough, the train magically showed up on time. It was very nice and comfortable. A lot more than your typical jet airliner, that's for sure. Everything was going perfectly until halfway or so to Amsterdam we stopped somewhere. Apparently a train ahead of us had mechanican problems and was blocking the track. They explained this in both German and English which was nice. So all of us had to get out at a small station in the middle of nowhere and wait for another train on another track. We waited about an hour, then boarded another train, and proceeded without further event to Amsterdam.

At the Amsterdam Central Station, we caught a cab to our hotel. I had made reservations at this hotel way in advance and got a nice room overlooking the canal. This is the view from our room! We even had a little balcony.
Looking straight down from our room. As you can see, Amsterdam has a lot of bikes.

A big houseboat with a nice garden on top. There are a ton of restaurants in Amsterdam. We didn't have to go far from the hotel to find whatever kind of food we wanted. I think we had Greek the first night, Italian the second, Brazilian meat lovers the third.
